Arizona Department of Health Calls for Gun Confiscation
Phoenix, AZ: The Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS) has called for the removal of guns from all homes with children. AZDHS made the recommendation for firearms to be confiscated in their latest Arizona Child Fatality Review Program (CFRP) report, submitted to the Governor, House, and Senate for the purpose of guiding policy and influencing state intervention.
The report states:
“CFRP believes that the most effective way to prevent firearm related deaths in children is to remove all firearms in households with children…”
Using the specter of child suicide and harm via firearm injury as an excuse to remove enumerated rights violates the very purpose for which government was established, per Article 2, Section 2 of Arizona’s Constitution: “All political power is inherent in the people…governments are established to protect and maintain individual rights.”
Further, AZDHS either knows, or should know, that organizations such as Walk The Talk America <https://walkthetalkamerica.org/about-us/>, are bridging the gap between mental health and responsible gun ownership, and offers mental health screening <https://walkthetalkamerica.org/love/>. So, too, is the “Hold My Guns” program <https://holdmyguns.org/>. Both are far more effective solutions to violence than fear-mongering in order to abridge our rights.
The Arizona Citizens Defense League condemns AZDHS malfeasance. Education, not legislation, is the key to safety.
